stroker timing

Post by daccarettfletez »

Just talked to the shop they finally assembled my 4.5 stroker, but have problems with it sputtering and misfiring as if timing was not right, what could it be? the cps is in the bellhousing of the nv3550 with manual tran stock flywheel so adjustment is very little....what can it be? It's a 4.5
Stock pistons dished to 23 cc
no block shaving
4.2 crankshaft and rods
Hi volume oil pump
Stock camshaft
victor reinz head gasket
Ford 24lb injectors

help me out.......

Its a 93.

Have you taken a look at this: http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/dist_index.html Note you may need to remove the ears to correctly index it. What plugs are you running?

As mentioned above, the first place to check is the distributor indexing, with a stock cam, you should not have to remove the ears from the dizzy, but check the indexing................

thNKS!

Correct! distributor indexing was the culprit! I'll post my experience driving it as soon as I get it back!!! Thanks all for the help on the board...

one more question best plugs for the stroker?
I'm running the accel u groove plugs, I once bought some bosch 4 electrode platinums but they didn't work fine on my 4.0...

Oem or equivelent replacements from NGK, Champion or Autolite. I personally like the champion truck plugs.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!

Sorry to drag up an old post but I'm having possibly similar issues and was wondering if you could describe the symptoms in a little more detail.

Re: stroker timing(finally took it for a ride)

Post by daccarettfletez »

4wdparakeet sorry for the late response but I haven't had time to check the site...

the problem was indeed bad timing, the symptons where difficult starting, engine misfired badly, backfired, was completely undrivable
the solution:
http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/dist_index.html

7 months later...finally test drove it. Couldn't be happier with the new engine, plenty of torque and best of all no pinging yet....(Just drove it on the street for about 45 min)...
Thanks all for the input and great info on the stroker build!!!
regards from Honduras
