I am using a JP Performance timing chain. When I put the harmonic balancer on, it is not going in as far as the balancer on the engine in my TJ. I am using a hesco spacer put on AFTER the balancer. The balancer is seated up against the oil slinger and crank gear. It looks like balancer is sticking out about 1/8 inch more than the one on my TJ. I didn't measure the width of the JP gears, but that seams that would be the only thing keeping the balancer from going in more. I am concerned about the serpentine belt not lining up. Anyone have this problem?
Also I have read that the nose of the 258 crank is 1cm longer on 258 crank, but I don't have a full cm sticking out from the balancer.

Re: harmonic balancer
I just measured, and ther is 8mm sticking out from the balancer. It looks like if the balancer would go in 2mm more it would match the 4.0.
Anyone have a JP Performance timing chain they can measure the thickness of the crank gear? I still have the stock chain and gears I can measure.

Re: harmonic balancer
I don't know what could be causing your problem. I have a JP timing set in my stroker and it all went together fine.
What is the clearance from the timing cover?

Re: harmonic balancer
I'll measure when I get home from work. I'm guessing about 3/16 to 1/4 inch on the stroker. On the 4.0 in my jeep 1/16-1/8 inch. I think that would be enough to cause problems with the belt.

Re: harmonic balancer
1/4" is almost double.. I don't like that.

Re: harmonic balancer
Hey Silver, how far away is the balancer pulley from the timing chain cover on your Jeep?

Re: harmonic balancer
OK, I did some measuring. I measured in mm because the 258 crank is suppossed to be 1 cm longer. From the oil slinger to the end of the crank is 40mm. The balancer hub is 32mm long. So that leaves the 8mm crank sticking out from the balancer hub I measured yesterday. The hub is seated against the crank gear. I ordered a new balancer today to see what it measures. I just need to have it balanced.
