Re: 151 to 4.6 stroker build
Now this may be a noob question but why are people notching these bearings?? ive seen you and silverxj do it. Do replacements not match the original bearings?

The original bearings have notches for the oil squirters in the rods. The replacements, in some cases, do not have the notches.

Aren't the squirt holes passe now? I don't see them being used in the race engines made in the shop. The engine builder says that the rods should get enough oiling from splash in the crankcase.

Re: 151 to 4.6 stroker build
I have heard people saying that the squirt holes aren't needed. The way I look at it...if they weren't needed, why were they there in the first place? Also with all the cam failures, I want all the lube to the cam I can get.
Race engines are looking for any little bit of HP they can get, not engine longevity. The drag caused by any oil coming off the crank cost some HP. This has been corrected by crank scrapers...and probably the removal of the suirt holes in the rod bearings.
Look at this pic. It shows how the squirt hole in the rod sprays directly on the cam, viewtopic.php?f=15&t=442&hilit=connecting+rod+pics#p4869
The federal mogul bearing I bought had the holes in the bearings.

I don't know if they are necessary or not. But as dwg says, they were put there by the factory for a reason. I doubt they like doing extra stuff. I'm not one to find out what happens if they aren't there.
