Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
For those of you who enjoy a similar system as the Jeep Strokers yahoo groups email list, i have added a RSS Feed feature to this board.
Here is a link to our RSS Feed:
http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/rss.php?f=0 (You can also browse it with your Internet Browser)
This feature allows you to get updates from this board into your inbox.. without having to subscribe to a particular topic. It also sends you the contents of the post so you don't have to actually come to this board to read it if you don't want to.
Here is a screen shot from Outlook 2007:
If your email program (Outlook, Outlook Express, Apple Mail etc) doesn't support RSS feeds natively, you can use a RSS forwarding company like RSSFWD, or SendMeRSS .. here are some links:
http://www.rssfwd.com/
http://www.sendmerss.com/
To learn more about RSS feeds and how you can use them .. here are a few sites to help you:

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10088_7-5143460-1.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)
I hope that this benefits some of you guys...
Please feel free to share your experence... and give feedback. Thanks!

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
Ok, I downloaded the RSSpopper for Outlook Express plugin, installed it, and added the jeepstrokers link. Guess what! It works! I must have gotten lucky, as I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff.
Kind of interesting what threads it sent me, all old threads except this one. I hope it works like I think it will. Thanks

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
The way it is set-up right now is that it shows you new threads that have been made, not replies that have been made to previous threads / posts.
Does that sound like the desired behavior so that you dont get flooded with RSS ? Or would you guys rather have it send you an update each time a post is made?

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
Is it possible to have it show new posts to existing threads, like the yahoo group does?

Yes, it now gives any new replies to the original post. I guess an easier way to say that would be it updates any new activity since your last RSS visit. Thanks.

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
Ok, as part of the updating process today i also took the time to expand this mod for our forum.
If your now browsing a topic or forum, you should see in the upper right hand side of the page directly next to the page number's for that topic/forum, a "RSS" icon, and a button that you can push labeled "RSS".
It should look similar to the image below:
This makes it easy if your only interested in knowing what happens for one topic, or one post instead of the whole board like before.
You can still get updated with RSS content for the whole board if you use the link in the header bar.
I hope that some of you find this useful. Please inform me of any glitches you may encounter.
Thanks for your time!

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
Once again, changes have been made to this modification.
Some more code got cleaned up, and now you can also view a RSS feed of posts for each individual person on this board.
So say if you enjoy reading all of Cheromanic's posts that he makes.... you can easily keep up to date with all his posts in a RSS feed.
This is done by either clicking "RSS" below the persons Username for example mine over here ---------------------------->
Or it can be done by actually viewing the persons profile and clicking "Subscribe to this user’s posts via RSS".
I hope some of you find this usefull!

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
I have been getting this error on forumrss.php in Firefox 3.0.3 builtin RSS reader off and on for that last couple of weeks.
General Error

Re: Forum RSS Feed / Syndication added!
How is it now?
As an update, for those of you who may have subscribed to one feed or another, you may need to remove the subscription, and re-add it. I found this out the hard way after making a bunch of changes and it not reflecting those changes on the subscribed feeds. This is also dependant on the reader that is used! A good rule of thumb either way is to delete and re-subscribe.
Bottom line? Anytime a significant change is made, i will need to make a post in this thread to have whoever is subscribed to a feed delete the subscribtion and re-subscribe.
