With all the talk of the quench high, CR, and how much ping you can live with. What are some of the people's motor combination that you have done and tell us what you would change or not change. For people like me that have most of the parts together but are still reading and trying to decide what the best combination is. :banghead: I can read till blue in the face but real world statments are worth a lot.

In my sig.

Bottom line. Custom Diamond pistons with zero deck on a stock deck height block. Pistons machined to allow for a 9.48 compression ratio with .043 quench. After figuring total cylinder volume at TDC

What ping ??

A couple question..............What octane are you using(87-91?)..............and what is the altitude where you live.......

Flash.

I really cant see myself spending 600 dollars on pistons alone, even with the 120 offset of not having to buy 258 rods.

an 88 israeli CJ8.

4.5L stroker, on a 258 overbored block (way overbored to accept 4.0 std slugs), 4.2L Crank (12 ct-wt)
1:9.7 CR, stock Felpro Head gasket, quench ~ 0.081", CompCams 68-231-4 Camshaft, Ported HO 7120 4.0L head with
Mopar Performance valve springs #5249464, 4.0L MPFI Fuel Injection with 24lb/hr FMS Injectors.

Running on 95RON (diffrent from US 95 octane, that's what we have here in israel) with absolutly NO PING AT ALL,
didnt have a ping even with carb.

oh, and I live at Sea Level.

First off I am at approx 600 feet above sea level. Been running 93 octane but feel that the engine would be fine on a lower octane fuel.

Secondly the pistons from Diamond where no where near 600. Much less, say around 200 less.

i wouldnt really call this a "stroker". youve got the standard stroke for your 258 block. cool steup though. how much overbore is that?

Still 400 is a lot of money to me.

it is exacly a stroker, just 258 block. since it is a 258 crank, and 4.0L standard pistons (0.125" overbore) giving the displacment of 4.5L.

it is exactly a stroker, just 258 block. since it is a 258 crank, and 4.0L standard pistons (0.125" overbore) giving the displacement of 4.5L.

But you have not changed the stroke of the motor any. Just an overbore

I agree, not a stroker by definition, but throw in the 4.145" stroker crank for the 258 and that becomes a really unique 4.8L stroker. I think we had a discussion on the yahoo group about whether it was possible to bore the 258 that much, guess that answers that question. 8-)

How about running a tank of mid grade, For..............Science

I have about 9.25 CR and .095" quench. I ive at 800 feet elevation, and I run 89 octane all the time. Also, all the fuel around here has 10% ethanol.
