151 to 4.6 stroker build

Post by eastin82 »

hello all jeepers. been lurking, reading, and planning for a while on hear and other sites trying to get this stroker build up and rolling. ive decided to post my progress hear since you guys are far more nowledgeable than i am. i have a 91 xj 4.0 thats going to become a 4.6 and replace a gm 151 in my 81 cj5. :rockout: when i started researching engine swaps and realized that i have some of the main parts laying around the barn it was a no brainer( couple of 258 in the corner of the barn). ill post pics of some of the things ive come up with so far. i had pics of the engine as i took it apart but i moved a box to the ground that contained engine harness and camera and my stepfathers dogs got ahold of the camera. so ill get some pics of the block and head tomorrow.this is what i plan so far not everythings rock solid(just what ive purchased so far).
91 4.0 complete engine (purchased)
92 wiring harness from a manual(purchased)
4 weight crank that needs to be turned(already had)
4.2 rods casting number 707 should be back soon(already had)
sealed power 677cp30 dished to 23cc(falcon)
comp cams 68-231-4(need)
clevite bearings (falcon)
diy port and polished head 3 angle valve job checked for flat(need)
valveterain?
timing set?
bore throttle body
header?
air filter?
and other things needed to fit it in cj(inline fuel pump, radiater, cps relocation kit, clutch, rebuild t176 and dana 300, vss, engine mounts, ect.)
.0025 deck height take off .043
gasket kit? .044 mls head gasket compressed(need)
quench of .0465 scr 9.44 and dcr 8.04
any suggestions on how high i can go with dcr and run on premium. should i deck more?

Yes order main bearings for the year of the block, the split is '90/'91 so compare them to the old ones before you install them, there is the possibility of some cross over there! they moved the locating tab after 36 years of being in the same location!?

hear are a few parts, im waiting on main and rod bearings so that i can take block, head, rods, pistons, piston pins, crank, bearings, main caps and bolts, freeze plugs, and cam bearings. having it bored 30, decked to 0, hot tanked, magnafluxed, freeze plugs, and cam bearings installed, and balanced. anyone think im forgeting anything or should have anything else done. after head is magnafluxed and hot tanked i can clean up the ports and then take it back to get my three angle valve job.

I wondered the same thing about the bearings myself. How hard is it to cut a notch in the bearing? It would suck bad if you didn't know about the notches and put them in, and had a failure. I'm sure they wouldn't admit to it being there fault as well.

Its pretty easy to notch them. Take a look at my build tread to see some pics. I just used a Dremel then debured it with a file.
