Crank Availability

just letting you all know, i ordered a marshall re-man crank through Rock auto. I was looking for the heavy 12 weight crank, and did some cross referencing of their part search and the castings for the 258 cranks. they even have the casting suffix listed in the listings, so they make it pretty easy to be sure you are getting a 12 weight. i was worrying that since there is some cross-compatability of the cranks for the 258, that i may end up with the lightweight crank.

anyway, i placed an order for the Marshall crank, and in just over a week, a 76 lb package containing a .010/.010 crank showed up on my doorstep, with king bearings (which are getting ditched for 242 bearings anyway). i figured it was worth letting you all know that i got a pretty good cut crank, and didn't end up with a 60 under or any crap like that.

:rockout:

now i just need all the other parts.....
have the rods and oil pump in hand, and pistons on order, and block gets dropped off next weekend!

Good buy!

BTW, you need the 4.0L main bearings, they are not the same as the 242.

The rod bearings are all the same.
The '87-'90 4.0L/242's use the same main bearings as the '64+ AMC 199's 232's and 258/4.2L's.

I tried to order one through Rock auto in December and they could not supply it, they tried to switch me to a 4 CW. maybe they have stock now.

it was drop shipped from marshall, so maybe they switched suppliers, after 7 days, it shipped, so it took a while, but worth the "weight"

I just ordered mine, $211.79 (with core), $34.18 shipping, minus an $8.59 discount for a total of $237.38 shipped. Google is a good place to find coupon codes :). That's by far the best deal on a crank that I have yet to find.
