so its been a little while since ive lurked here. any developments in building a cheap stroker? i was fired up about the KB pistons before i found out about the price.

You and me both. I was set on buying them last May and they kept on post-poning(hopefully they didn't ship out the "bad" first batch to anyone--as told by the techs) and then I found out they were at least $75 a piston(compared to $35-50 for the ford and chevy sets of 8 going for $300-400). Then there is the comp height issue and not being able to use the eagles--basically I let myself down with my expectations. I had a specific time frame when my bro was back from the middle east and we were able to make due with the 825cp30s and 4.2 rods. Of course they were finally available a week or two later(they were not meant to be used on my build).

That's less than half the price of the ford pistons, and they go on the 4.2 rods with no mods. You're already $200 ahead on the pistons plus no wrist pin mods to pay for or sonic testing. Bang for your buck = 4.7L. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just my opinion.

i guess im looking to do minimal machining to the block. no decking, small bore. maybe a 4.6 build. mostly junk yard parts including the block, crank and rods.

In all honesty, deck the block for a zero deck height and get oleshot to dish the pistons to achieve whatever scr/dcr you're looking for with the cam you're gonna use. I had mine decked .030"(so there's a .010-.012 deck height) and would've done .040" if I had the pistons machined a little(take the 15.1cc dish to 18 or so). I knew I was riding the dcr limit for pump gas on my build(on purpose to run on 93 and get the most out of it, but it's a couple tenths too much). Shoot for 8.0-8.25dcr for a 93 octane build(can't speak for what's the highest dcr you can get away with on 87). I spent about $150 for the h825cp30s and $60 for the premium moly rings.

Mine's a 0.020" overbored version (4563cc) of the 4.5L "poor man's" stroker on my site. The dyno numbers speak for themselves. Doing '00+ intake conversion soon.
