When everything is cleaned up, and new main bearings are at hand, they will press on with thumb pressure.

The bearing halves should pop right out if you fiddle with them.

So all 258's have this as the #3 main bearing? Its completly different than all the others. You can even see on the crank itself that this journal is much larger than all the others... I guess im just that much of a noob to where i dont know that its something normal!!

I don't see a problem either. That is the #3 thrust bearing, its what keeps your crank where it should be in the engine in regards to front and back.. The 4.0l has one as well.

i asked the same question after i took apart my 4.0 and 4.2 side by side. didnt dawn on me at all, even after taking both apart. i asked elsewhere thinking my block was bad or maybe my crank. totally normal.

That crank might even polish without turning, that engine looks like it has been cared for more so than most of them on the road!

The distributor drive gear on the cam looks severely damaged. What happened to this engine?

Nothing that im aware of.. i got it for free. Someone was going to use it to replace their 258 .. but then found out they didnt need to replace the engine. Ive got it all put back together now to just get rid of it... or else id pull the cam and take a pic.
