So my 89 4.0L decided to poo it's self so I am looking at my options. I am on a budget of about 1200 to 1400 to rebuild or upgrade. I would like to do the low buck 4.6 RC stroker recipe but I would like to be in the budget. Also in this budget I need to replace a few things like header, starter, waterpump probally a few sensors etc. What have you guys spent and anything to look out for. I really would like to run a stroker but if I can't build the one I want I would rather rebuild it stock and spend the money else where.

Re: Stroker costs
You should be able to do it with the 1400 budget as long as you're doing most of the work yourself. I recently built mine as a 4.5L stroker. Parts were right at $950, but I had to pay someone to do the build since I'd never done any engine work. It helps to shop around to find the best deals. I ended up using Falcon for most of my parts, and ebay for some too.

Re: Stroker costs
I'm not 100% sure because I haven't got to tear it down yet but I lost oil pressure and it was knocking. Couldn't hear the knock at idle but as the RPM's got higher you could hear it.
I did find a 258 cranks and rods today for 40 bucks so that helps.
