Another successful transplant

Post by gradon »

So I took an awesome running 72K engine out of my 96 to put in the stroker. Its been sitting in a shed since May; I've been looking for a body for it for a while and I found one a month or so ago--a red 96 sport, 4dr, 4wd, aw4, anti-lock brakes(which means the weaker d35), pw, pl, 128K w/blown headgasket for sure and possible component failure(it blew the dipstick out so somehow the bottom end was getting compression). Body is in good shape save for a dent in the ds door(I already pushed it out). Anyhow I paid $160 for it and $110 to get it towed from the dealer(where she didn't want to pay $1800 for a 75k engine swap) to my parent's house. The stars aligned this week: the club was closed, the weather was to be 50+, and my other XJunky bro didn't have to start a new job. I started tearing the engine bay apart on Monday afternoon and we got it put back together and running by 7pm tonight(~5hr days). Highlights include a stripped pass side(the harder one to get to) e12 bolt that had to be diegrinded off, drilling and chiseling the race out of the crank(manual>auto), all the extra $#!+ that autos have that get in the way(tubes, cooler lines, linkage), and the joys of having it start once it got the juice from the body that it originally lived in. I have another spare engine. . .
