Replace Rings?

Post by DannyD »

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee AWD that believe it or not has 330k miles on the original 4.0 only thing that has been done is the trans got rebuilt a few Years ago then I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee lerado 4.0 with the select trac with 248k miles and one morning the bottom radiator hose came off some how after a year with no issue and caused me to blow the head gasket but it still runs and drives just misfires once in a while and steams if it has sit over night but once it warms up it runs fine so I'm about to take the 04 motor out and go through it with all new gaskets and put it in my 03 then take my 03 and check the head to see if it has any problems other than the gasket if not thats going to be the motor I'm going to stroke so I know they will last for ever if maintain properly but got a question would it be smart when I'm doing the head gaskets kit in the 04 motor with 330k miles it has never ran even close to hot so no issues just replacing head gasket and head bolts do you think it would be wise to replace the piston rings while I'll pretty much be there anyways it doesn't smoke only reason it loses oil is the gaskets like oil pan, rear main, front crank seal, and valve cover is all leaking or would it just be fine with just the gasket set? What's y'all opinion on the matter?
