My Dad asked for a refund but hasn't heard back. Apparently when my Mom picked it up it was in a plastic bag. No box, no papers, just mold and rusty. I'm so bummed!

Rust pottinger sold us that crank. Above retail and even charged me an additional $150 to balance it. He pushed it off on my Wife and was rude on top of it. This guy had a little baby fit when my wife was going over the parts list with me before she left his place. I heard Rust pottinger through the phone say, what he doesn't trust me? As he's counting my $3,000 no doubt. There it is. You're Jeep Stroker God is con man! He sold us a crank that, according to promaxx, he purchased March of '22, which is not a problem unless he ships it rusty, moldy, and in a plastic bag. Come on all you rust pottinger worshippers, tell me how wrong I am to expect more than this for my money...

He sold me on these great pistons and said that the KB's sucked. Then at the last minute said he was out of the high speed rust pottinger pistons and offered up ones with the same dish as the crappy KB's. D-cup type. I ended up with pistons that will cost me over $1000 to make work with pump gas. Thanks rust! What a great guy. All I asked for was a refund...

rust pottingers argument, "I spent a lot of time helping you". The solution he offered up was to have my engine guy look at it. Cuz engine guys do stuff for free. He won't give me a refund, but wants my engine guy to spend time on it? Silly rust!

What did you purchase in total exactly?

Also, what crankshaft is that? Aftermarket? OE 4.2L most likely, correct?
New cranks are always coated is cosmoline to prevent corrosion. Otherwise, they rust terribly fast and you have to routinely coat them with an oil film. If you purchased an OE 4.2L crank, you can't really expect it to look perfect. The benefit of an OE crank however is that it is somewhat proven that it functions properly, as long as the journals are stock diameter.

How do the journals look?

I've cleaned mountains of rust from old crankshafts. I've torn down methanol car motors that have significant internal rust. As long as the fillets and the journals are rust free, there isn't much concern as far as hydrogen embrittlement.

I paid $750 for that crank. The least the prick could have done was inspect and clean it. That shaft came in a plastic bag. It was purchased May of 22 and this creep sold it to my daughter know ing that my wife would be picking it up. Then he got bitchy with my wife after accepting the money. That's enough for me to know that he aint worth a shit and either is the crank.

I've read this thread. I've looked at the photos. I've also seen these crankshafts before and I even know the person that does the
balancing for Russ. First of all, What you see as mold is not mold at all, but soap residue from a jet washing machine. Second, In
my life, I've seen many, many crankshafts and other auto related parts (especially castings) that have spots on them that look like
rust. Castings have more porosity than forgings and therefore hold more moisture in the manufacturing process. A lot of the
solutions for today are water base liquid. Remember, petroleum preservatives have a tendency to stay above the moisture (Kinda
like crude oil in the ocean). Third, Like I said before, I know the guy that does the balancing for Russ and he will tell you, that just
like balancing a tire, different people have varied tolerances. This guy has the reputation of being exceptionally picky about what
he does. If there is deflection, he corrects it. I hope this helps you in your quest for a good motor. Also, I know that Russ has been
in this business for a very long time and the people I know will tell you he's a good, well respected guy.

A better answer to your question-

I bought a complete RA.

The crankshaft was unboxed with no paperwork and no manufacturer name on the invoice. Supposed to be a 4.2 aftermarket stroker crank. promaxx probably but nothing on the crank verifies this and they will not confirm it either. Not their problem. They sold this crank to rust moldinger 1 1/2 years ago.

The journals have some areas that are oxidized. Small black specs that won't come off with a q-tip and acetone.

Cleaning old cranks is one thing. This is another thing altogether. I still have no info on the crank and my requests for a refund have gone ignored. Thanks rust moldinger!
