Plenty of strokers were built in the past with the 4.2 rod / Silvolite 2229 piston combination. The problem is that those pistons have a compression height of only 1.581" and without milling the block deck, the piston crowns would be 0.050" below the deck at TDC.
If you mill 0.040" from the deck, that would leave the deck clearance at 0.010" and the quench at a decent 0.053" with a 0.043" head gasket. In that configuration, increasing the piston dish volume from 11.5cc (stock) to 22cc would reduce the static CR to a pump gas friendly 9.5:1.
Note that you'll need to reduce the pushrod length by the same amount you take off the block deck in order to maintain correct lifter preload.
