New engine for ‘98 XJ

Post by nolehynaws »

Hello,

The 4.0 in my 1998 XJ started knocking, I’d like to turn it in to a stroker but I don’t have the money as of right now. I got a quote for a running 4.0 with 160,000 miles out of a ‘98 Grand Cherokee for about $650, so I think I’m gonna drop that in for the time being. I’m wondering if there’s anything I should do to the “new” engine before I drop it in. I’m thinking along the lines of freeze plugs or anything easy(ish) to replace that might fail down the line. Also I just want to make sure that this engine will drop right in to my XJ.

Thanks for any help!

I haven't heard of anyone having freeze plug issue but FOR SURE I would do the rear main seal, pan gasket and valve cover gasket
