4.0 Head for better flow

Post by optmaxx »

So it's been a while and my stroker is still running strung and passes smog, but now I think want to upgrade the head and maybe the intake as well to the horseshoe shaped one, but I'm mainly interested in the head.

I've read that the aluminum head doesn't really do much for basic stroker builds as far as performance goes, so I think I'd want to get a rebuilt upgraded cast iron head.

So far I'm pretty sure I want to keep my 91-95 4.0 aftermarket stock camshaft cause figuring out preload is kind of confusing for me. So I was wondering if Russ had any upgraded rebuilt head options for my build?:

I live in California
1996 engine block .020+ bore
KB 944 pistons
7120 Head
1995 stock camshaft
4.2 crank turned .010
24 lb injectors
Ebay header
Cherry Bomb muffler

I also would like to hear if there's a head and horseshoe intake bundle, and I know I said I didn't want to mess with camshaft preload, but if there's an upgraded camshaft where I don't have to worry about that, let me know, and if you can feel the difference. Also are the Harland Sharp roller rockers worth it?

The HS roller rockers are worth it for the improved valvetrain stability and reliability.
You could have your existing head ported and the horseshoe intake manifold port matched to maximize performance.
Russ does offer a ported cast iron head with oversize LS1 valves that's much cheaper than the Edelbrock aluminium unit.
