Renix flexplates

Greetings:
I don't have a Renix flexplate as I'm trying to use a Megasquirt II with a 258 currently. There's really a couple things I have questions on:
1-Is this still a problem? The thread was old and I'm hoping it got sorted out. If not, what's a reliable source for flexplates that work?

2-I'm looking at using a Hall Effect Sensor from a later model Jeep instead of the VR sensor of the Renix. Has anyone done this before? Just wondering if it will work or not. I would prefer to not deal with the problems associated with VR.
