So I recently bought my first Jeep. 1994 YJ with 4.0 and 5 speed. It looks the part for sure, 5.5" lift, 35" Mickey Ts, Ford 8.8 RE, lockers, winch, etc.
It has 178K miles on it and after driving it a couple weeks, my guess is I have about a year before I need to replace the powerplant. My thoughts are to buy another 4.0 engine and build a stroker to drop in when this one goes (or when the stroker is finished). So I've learned just enough to be dangerous and tried putting together a budget for a 4.7 medium budget build.
Here's what I have so far. Please shoot as many holes in this as possible.
2000 Wrangler 4.0 take out from salvage yard $700 (will a 2000 block work for me here?)
Scat 3.895 Crank $645
Scat 6.125 Rods $365 (or should I use the stock rods?)
Pistons/Rings Budget $660 but I have no idea what I need here other than +.06 bore diameter
COMP cam 68-235-4 210/218 cam kit $445
Quadratec 68mm TB $600
Aluminum Edelbrock head $1700 (ouch)
This puts me at around $5500 in parts before machine work. Is this a reasonable budget or am I missing any big components? Anything seem to be overkill or senseless spending here? Thanks for any feedback.
