I found about 1/4 of the #4 piston in the bottom of the oil pan. The picture makes it look a lot worse than it ended up being. Amazingly there was no damage to the cylinder wall!

So I decided since I needed to replace the piston, might as well upgrade while we're in there. Plan is to go with a 4.5L Simple Stroker from Dino Saava's 4.0 performance site. I modified it a little bit b/c the 677cp pistons were hard to find.

Specs:

* Jeep 4.2L 3.895" stroke crank
* Jeep 4.2L 5.875" rods
* Sealed Power H802CP standard bore pistons (dished to 18cc's)
* 9.25:1 SCR
* 7.96:1 DCR
* Stock 4.0 camshaft
* Port & Polish cylinder head
* Mopar/Victor 0.043" head gasket
* 0.081" quench height
* stock injectors with stock 49psi FPR for '96 and later engines
* 247hp @ 4900rpm, 300lbft @ 3500rpm (thats what Dino's site says)

mine was #5 piston in my 258.

stroker is going to machine shop tomorrow.
tryin to figure out which piston will let me run pump 87/89 gas.

thinking of using the 2229 pistons from summit racing.

dont bother. its nice but the expense versus reward is minimal.
it was also a PITA getting my excellent machinist to get factory parts to conform to my blueprinting desires...

not starting a discussion thread here-PM me if you want details.

Have you been running 87 octane consistently in the stroker since you installed it? And if so, how does it perform? any problems? (after the initial tank of mid-grade I mean) Thanks.

i exclusivly run 91 octane. never would consider anything else. CA gas is junk so my 91 is your 50... PITA...

if i didnt mention already-my gains are not your gains as i am a Luddite and insist on running a 2100 carb. #50 jets currently
10:1 static and 8:1 dynamic with 1989 renix cam.

SO... yeah-i may have built a 300hp motor and choked the snot out of it by not max cam and FI...
I sitll like the motor and I loved building it.
I am slow so the time it took versus the reward I expected but didnt see meant a 4.0 would have been a good choice for me.

I also get 14mpg which is good considering my rig

was anything done to the block during this build?

also if i am already and continuing to run high octane. would the block need to be decked?

block was align honed and bores squared to deck.
it was also decked to obtain a "ZERO" deck height so my quench was the thickness of my headgasket.

Just curious because I am building going to build a stroker but what is the compression if you do not dish those pistons to 18?

Hi!
How did you get 9.57:1 SCR / 8.28:1 DCR and 0.050" Quench on H802CP pistons (18cc dish)?
According to Stroker Compression Ratio Calculator you must have 9.83:1 SCR / 8.5:1 DCR at 0.050" Quench.
