Just an update on a year-old thread. I have 10,000 miles on the engine now and it's not let me down. However, I did find the cause of my continuous misfire codes. I pulled the head again, third time, and my new machinist found vacuum leaks due to poorly ground valve seats. Also, the valve guides were not set to the correct height allowing them to cut into the seals. This allowed oil to sneak by. Although I found another tupy head, he believes he can fix this one.

The head is now with George at Cylinder Head Specialties in Wake Forest NC. For anyone in the Raleigh area, I would recommend CHS. I initially used Walker Auto and Truck in Raleigh. I also highly recommend Bishop-Buehl Racing Engines (Russ Pottenger) for parts and advice. Not really a mechanic myself, I could not have completed this project without his help and, of course the shared advice and experiences from JS Forum members.
