I sandblasted the intake, primed it with the duplicolor primer, then went with duplicolor new ford gray. Topped with their clear coat.
Turned out pretty good. I plan on painting the block the same color....That way I can see oil leaks when they inevitably happen.
Also ordered the Banks 51306 header, and the Eastwood internal exhaust coating today.

So here is a new problem... The machine shop called today and said they had to deck the block so it will not be a zero deck. The gentleman that called me did not know how much the machinist took off but said they would assemble the short block and see how far out of the hole the piston protruded.
Now Russ told me these pistons will stick out of the hole .008 inch with a 9.450 deck height. How do I make up for the material removed from the deck?
Thicker head gasket? The machine shop is charging me $280 to assemble the short block so I didn't bother buying dial indicators, I'm just having them do it. They will be calling me tomorrow with the numbers...Hopefully some of you can give me proper guidance before then.

Thanks again folks,

Will

The baffle controls the CCV system and without it you’ll be pulling oil where it shouldn't be.

Just purchase the VC and thermostat spacer and all your problems will be handled.

I had actually wondered about that. If removing the baffle created a free flow for oil to jump out the PCV valve. Isn't everyone removing the baffle to run their roller rockers? Without the spacer that is.

Thicker head gasket?
Yes. A thicker head gasket (Felpro 0.051") would definitely solve that little headache.

Thanks for the assist fellas.
I will get those ordered now.

The machine shop just called and said the pistons are .013 out of the hole.

Definitely not as bad as I was fearing.

Everything I read here claims that I do not need spacers with the HS 1.6 non adjustable rockers.

Depends on the cam lift.

If you have no lift than sure bolt it up. Got .500 ? It’s going to hit.

Dang it, I'm splitting the difference with .488/.507".
I guess I'll get back to shopping.

Hey Will,

I wouldn’t sweat the rocker arm clearance concerns with the Harland Sharp Non-adjustable’s.

Yes you always have to check for proper clearance but because you’re OEM metal cover has a full length internal tin baffle all you have to do is give it a few “love taps” in the areas of the baffle that need clearancing.
