Hi, My Name is Bill C. this is my first time chatting on a forum, I would appreciate any info. I am rebuilding a 1994 yj 4.0 i took my block and head to a machine shop and had that work done, I am assembling the motor my self. my first question is i installed the cam and it slid in easy, but the journals on the cam do not fully engage the bearings the journals stick out the front of the bearings about an 1/8" is this a problem.

Assuming the correct cam bearings were installed properly with the oil holes lined up with the holes in the block, you should be fine.

Hi Bill,
You’ll note the backside of your camshaft gear is not flat and has a recess allowing for the camshaft protrusion.
Just a quick reminder, when you install your camshaft and secure it with your cam bolt and washer make sure you remember the spring and pin gets reinstalled inside the drilled out cam bolt.
It’s something easy to overlook if you’re not familiarized with the intricacies of our 4.0’s
