2001 Jeep 4.0 -> 4.6l Stroker

So I want to build a 4.6l stroker next summer as my current 4.0 isn't running 100% strong anymore (had two 0331 heads crack on it, bad OP on startup).

Anyway, I have done some research and found some kits I would consider purchasing. Let me know what you think.

Here is the stroker kit I am considering.

Here is the camshaft I am considering. This is the main area that I am unsure of. Should i get a new cam? I would like to but need it to be reliable.

Then I would probably order the rest of the necessary stuff like oil pump, gasgets, freeze plugs, ect... off of Rock Auto. Thoughts on this plan? Anything I am missing? What should I bore out the cylinders? I messaged a guy on the Clegg website and he said I should he able to run normal gas. Thanks for any help.

The only thing I don't like about the Clegg stroker kits are the pistons. I suggest you contact Russ Pottenger and order his piston/rod assemblies. The pistons are the correct height for the application without needing to mill the block deck, and you'll want a static CR at least in the high 9's if you're going to run Clegg's stage 2 cam.
Talk to Russ and discuss a plan that fits your budget.

Is there a less aggressive cam that I could use with that kit?

There are several. What type of use will you be putting your Jeep through? Do you want lots of torque from right off idle or do you want it mainly at higher rpm?

What are my options for both types of power? I would probably use the higher rpms though.

The CompCams 68-231-4 will give you a good spread of torque from 1000-5250rpm, and a static CR of ~9.6:1 would be just right for it.

Would I be able to use normal gas with that?

Keep in mind i will be using a 2001 block with fuel injection.

Russ has custom cam grinds for the '99+ blocks that use the retaining plate.

Are there any from comp cams? If so, which ones? I want one that builds power in the higher rpms, and works with a fuel injected 2001 4.0 block.

Will the Cleggs cam work if I raise the compression 9.6:1? Would I be able to use normal gas?

Just about all aftermarket cams are designed for '98 and earlier blocks, including the Clegg's. In order to use them in '99+ blocks, you'd have to use the timing set and recessed cam bolt with spring/pin for '98 and earlier models. You can't use the cam retaining plate with those cams, and the '99+ cam bolt/washer won't fit either.
Talk to Russ.

I ordered cleggs stage 1 cam for a previous build on a 2000 block and it came with the thrust plate style. Just had to leave a note of the year make and model then select the correct year block. But your results may vary. :D

Did you like the cam? Did it fit right in with no major mods? Power increase? Sorry for the nagging questions

I Liked it a bunch, it had great drivability on a semi stock motor. There was definitely a noticeable power difference but nothing crazy. I couldn't really give you a long term review since shortly after I pulled that motor out to put my stroker in! :D
