I'm planing a stroker built fot my TJ
I've a TJ 1997 4.0, AX-15 manual tansmission, F/R LP9" currie ( 4.86 R&P), 2" lift, 35x12.50r15 BFG m/t (next tire will be 37x12.50r17 BFG m/t). Her name is Claretta
As I have already written, I would like a DD jeep, for the holidays (highways use, 80 mph) and weekend offroad.
Currently Claretta does it well , but a i think with a balanced stroker project do it better
I've been a second 4.0 engine, for a long term stroker project. it's out of 1997 tj
I can reuse this stuff mounted on Claretta (if not, i sell it and i brought new parts):
- BBK 62mm TB & Spacer
- 505 performance SS fully ported header
- Magnaflow catalytic converter,
- Borla 2.5" catback
- BMC CDA airfilfer cold air intake (w/safari snorkel)
I'm looking for a good project buit, not an extreme project, not a "junky" project.
A good compromise $$$/performance
if a work is to be done, I do it.
If something is to be bought, I buy it.
This isn't a "no limit budget project", this is a best $$/performance ratio project
Mpg like now, or higher if is possibile (standard unlead fuel cost = 7,0 $/gal &up )

268hp @ 4900rpm, 326lbft @ 3500rpm
The differences betwen are:
-Pistons
-Performance/custom camshaft
-Injectors
-Head work & big valve
= +23HP, + 11lbft. But at higher rpm
I think these changes increase the budget, but how much? Are they really well spent or waste of money? And the higher rpm make Claretta better onroad and worse offroad?

i've seen the Hesco result:
269hp @4800rpm and 339lbft @3200rpm
About the same power of "4.6L low-buck stroker" but more torque at lower rpm. I think this is better for all use, or not?
Where is the difference on HESCO setup to archive this result? (Hesco calim stock head )
And this stuff make real difference for my project?

I think you would be wasting your time putting a stock cam back in it. The DIY vs. Russ ported head is your call. Obviously the price difference will be large, especially considering where it needs to get shipped to. If daily driving is your main concern, If save my pennies and just DIY clean up your head and if you are feeling brave, port and polish it yourself. I would, however, spend the extra money and go with Russ's recommended pistons. He can spec them to whatever would work best with your setup. The pistons AND the cam I would look to Russ for recommendations and to purchase from him.
And reference the last list of things you were wondering if it would be worth it, other than custom PCM tuning, I'd say no for just something you want better power/driveability out of.
