cold air intake
HI was looking to see which cold air intake has the highest rating among the stroker group and which would be the best on price as well. I would even entertain the idea of fabbing my own unit up if I could get some insight as to how to go about it.

Re: cold air intake
I fabbed my own. It wasn't pretty but it certainly did the job that it was intended to do.

Re: cold air intake
I did something very similar to this, but with bigger 3" piping and a larger 3" velocity stack at the end of the filter housing:

I'd post pics, but Photobucket sucks, so.......

Re: cold air intake
Unfortunately I forgot but there was a 7" S&B Powerstack cone filter underneath the heat shield lid, and the IAT sensor sat next to it (notice extended wiring). The piping from filter to TB was 3".Russ Pottenger wrote:Dino,

Re: cold air intake
thanks for the pics Cheromaniac. I am working on a diy cowl hood and was kicking the idea around of integrating the cai into the hood as well. The unit you built is something similar to what I was thinking of building myself. I did a little messing around with my intake hose (I know I am going to get flack over this, but anyway) unhooked from the stock box and turned towards where the brake booster /master cylinder with Iat in manifold as oem or over top of the engine with the Iat in the box. The position over the engine caused major pinging ,where as pointed towards the back corner did not and to the butt dyno seemed to provide much crisper throttle response and better power.

Re: cold air intake
My 2001 has had a cowl intake for many years, without issues. Rain and snow have never caused problems.
It can lower the intake temps by as much as 25 degrees, when cruising.

It sounds good, under acceleration, but quiets down, when cruising.

Re: cold air intake
So you have the filter inside the cab?
Noticed any noise from the intake inside the cab?
I have been thinking about do this.

Re: cold air intake
The filter is in the housing in the intake piping you see under the hood. Kinda looks like a big black mushroom just before the firewall. There is increased noise inside the cab but not a ton. The area under the cowl is separate from the cab. It's basically just a spot for the wiper gear and motor to live.
