So I have a 1992 jeep with the H.O 4.0. After the engine failed I decided to build a stroker. But I have no idea where to start. Whether to make it a 4.6 or a 4.8, etc. Any tips? I have a $2000 budget

With a budget that modest, I think the 4.6L modified poor man's stroker recipe (see link in my sig) is the one to aim for.

But with such a generalized question, I think you need to do a lot of research before you even start down this road. Go read Dino's website like 5 times through to get an idea, then talk to Russ about getting parts and setting a compitant machine shop of your choice straight on what to do.

If you're sure you want to do it the first thing to do is search your local junk yards and craigslist for a 258. If you can find one it could sure help save funds. You can work out the build details later but you'll need a crank no matter what. I think the new ones go for around $500. I found a guy that pulled a 258 out of a CJ to put a 304 in. I gave him $50 for the 258, pulled the crank, and took the rest to the scrapper for $55. This was several years ago of course, when there were more 258s and scrap was still worth something but its still worth looking.

Do you have a link for that?

				Mike,
Your welcome to shoot me a call or email and I would be happy to go over a stroker kit proposal and answer any questions that you might have.
As Dino points out and demonstrates on his website, a Stroker can be built on any budget.
The advantages of a Stroker build over a stock 4.0 rebuild are significant.
