Ok here's the situation: a friend that I work with has a Grand Cherokee 4.0 he tried to Change the timing chain and gears himself and could not get it to run after the install. I told him I would try to help him with it. After a an hour of trying I had no luck so I tore it back down to see if he had it timed correctly and it was. Keep in mind it ran and good before and someone suggested he put a timing set on due to the mileage (150k). I put timing cover and balancer back on but the balancer was about 60* off tdc so I took the balancer bolt out just to see where the keyway was and it was still straight up, the balancer had spun. I installed a spare balancer that I had tdc marks lined up, good to go right, nope, he had pulled the cam sensor and it was off as well. I pulled the sensor and re installed it fired right up. Now this is where it gets weird, it runs great until you try to come to a stop then it acts like its running out of gas and dies. He say it didn't do this before. I thought maybe I had it 180 out so I rechecked and it was correct. Any ideas or thoughts on what it could be? I have checked for vacuum leaks, loose connections, grounds etc. it has no codes either.

How are you installing the cam sensor?

How did you install the timing chain, dot to dot?

How does it run aside from stalling?

Installing the cam sensor with engine on tdc on the timing mark #1 piston on compression using the tooth pick method.
Timing chain is dot to dot.
Runs normal besides the stalling on deceleration.
I also cleaned the IAC valve and replace the tps with a known good one.

Also on a quick note when it stalls it will start right back up.

No real updates, the only thing I have been able to get any results from was place a small spacer over the idle stop. With the spacer there it doesn't cut off but the idle still drops to about 300 when stopping unless the a/c is then it only drops to 500.

Ok I know this isn't the right way to fix the idle problem he's having but the only way I got it to stay steady was to adj the idle stop on the throttle body.

Did you clean or replace the IAC? Maybe try resetting the PCM.. prehaps it has a bad habit left over form a stretched chain.

Yes iac was cleaned and PCM was reset each time any changes were made.

Have you tried TPS.You may have a vacum leak

Had a similar problem with a honda s2000. Ended up being the MAP sensor voltage spiking when going off throttle causing the ECU to dump a ton of fuel.
AFAIK you can do a quick test by disconnecting the MAP sensor and driving it around. ECU should fall back on its tables and run alright.
