Just about anything that isn't a Fram.

I use NAPA gold filters, which are made by Wix and I have no complaints.

WIX 51515. It's actualy for a ford v8 so it holds about a half a quart more and has more filter element to it...

Does the Ford wix have the same thread dimensions? (Is it a direct bolt on?)

Purolator PL30001 PureONE (from Advance) or Wix 51515. Both the same size for the Fords, but the Purolator's rated a bit higher in filtration capability. Both bolt-ons. That reminds me - I'm due!

Threads right on. Almost like it was made to fit the jeep not the ford. If someone gave you one and told you it was the right one for your jeep and you went to put it on, you would never know that it wasn't ment for it.

Purolator PureONE PL14670, I don't know how you'd get a taller filter in there?, IIRC I ran a longer one on the the six in my '68 American when it had the six in it but the wire loom to the starter gets in the way of the short filter on the Jeep?

That 301 I was talking about is also a larger Ford app like the wix and pur, fyi.

Here's a list of filters for both the 5.2" long and 6.9" long models. They all fit our thread, 3/4x16. Fram is omitted for obvious reasons. :) The longer filters will not fit on my 91 because of interference with the starter loom. However they should work on the vertical config. oil filter engines.

5.178" HIGH, 3.660" DIA, 3/4-16
AC-Delco PF2
Motorcraft FL-1A
Purolator PL30001
Napa 1515
Wix 51515
Mobil 1 M1-301

6.93" HIGH, 3.660" DIA, 3/4-16
AC-Delco PF42
Motorcraft FL299
Purolator L40017
Napa 1773
Wix 51773

I don't understand that. I have heard that before too. However, I have the horizontal oriented filter (points reward) and I don't have any interference with the starter wires. Sure, if I dropped the filter while removing it, the filter would land on the starter solenoid, and perhaps come into contact with the wires.

I'm saying there's not enough room on my 91 to push the 6.93" long filters back far enough to get the thread pipe into the filter hole w/o hitting the starter wire. The 5.178" long filters do just fit though.

The Purolator PL14670 is about 3 1/5" tall and it's physically touching the wire loom as it sits, and it's right in line with the center of the filter, where are you going to put a taller filter in there???

Quick question on the picture posted above.... Is that your stock filter configuration?

My Renix engine, AND my 91 HO had a right angle adapter, that would position the filter in a more upright position. I removed it and used the threaded tube to make it like the configuration that you have pictured. I didn't like the upright angle, felt that it could allow oil to drain back into the crankcase with the engine being off for awhile. Not to mention BOTH engines had decent leaks from the adapters o-rings, so i figured it would be one less potential leak in the future :-)
