Thrust plate with a crane cam?

Hey guys.
I've got a 93 4.0 that i'm stroking out, but I must have been drunk the day that I disassembled the cam. I forgot to look and see if it had a thrust plate or not, and I neglected to take pictures. Right now, I'm not sure if a thrust plate even exists. What years had the cam thrust plate?
I'll be installing a crane 753901 cam, does this cam need a thrust plate?

The 93 doesn't have one, so you are good with the Crane.

Your engine utilizes a cambolt that is centered drilled for a solid pen and spring.
That's the method used on the early HO's to set the cam thrust.
If you've lost your misplaced it they're available at the dealer for $8.00 retail

Awesome! Good to know, thank you. I just ordered one from a local dealer, part number 83502890.
Until then, I'm curious. What years did have the thrust plate? Thanks again!

But you can't use the thrust/cam retention plate with the crane cam even though you ordered one. Return for refund.

The 83502890 part he ordered is the bolt, pin, spring kit.
99 to 06 had the thrust plate. One of the problems with the thrust plate cams is there limited to the OEM style timing set.
Every engine I build gets a $130.00 billet gear double roller timing set, and that includes converting the later blocks to a bolt and pin setup.
Horse divorce, when you go back to the dealer to get your cam bolt, pick up that black neoprene bushing that go's in the timing cover.
The part number is 33003446. It'll be less than 8 bucks.

Thanks for the heads up Ross. I think I've got the bushing already. If not, I'll know where to get one.
Tell me about this roller kit though. I bought a rebuild kit already for this year motor, and it came with gears and a chain. It's a single roller though. What are the benefits of a double roller system?

It's like a lot of stuff these days. Quality control has been a bit off and inconsistent.
The OEM sets aren't what they used to be. A company called SA gear is manufacturing most of the OEM units.
When I could buy a SA timing set for about 25.00, it's not confidence inspiring.
Don't get me wrong. In most cases your timing set will work fine, but unfortunately like most things it's a get what you pay for thing.
Maybe another example or way to look at it, ... anybody that works for the FDA would probably never eat another hotdog in his lifetime. : )
