Jeep Strokers

For some reason when I look it up it is for a 4.2 and nothing about in a 4.0 ? Also some sites say for fuel injection and I'm going carbed.

The Comp cams (68-231-4, 68-232-4, 68-235-4, 68-239-4) work on fuel-injected 4.0 engines of all ages but '99+ models require the use of the earlier style recessed cam bolt/spring/pin with matching washer and an aftermarket timing set. They also work on carbed set-ups.

Alright so I can use it for my 99 4.0 block but since I'm getting a double roller for a block older than 99 all I need to get then is the pin,spring and bolt ?

I can't understand why you would forgo the '99+ cam retention plate for the bolt/pin/spring. You can get a '99+ cam with near 232 specs.
So you could use a double roller timing chain? A good quality '99+ single roller timing chain is adequate.

Yea I was researching different timing chains. From what I saw double rollers are really recommended for hardcore horse and torque engines. I thought a single would hold up just fine. Not to mention I have one under warranty for a 1996 xj I used to have. I basically could get a new chain for free lol.

Camshaft wise what cam would work for my 99 block then if not the 68-232-4 ?

Why buy a different timing chain setup and spring,pin, and bolt if I don't have to ?

I guess it would be fair to say there's pros and cons either way.

I believe Melling is making most of the late cams to OEM specs and Jones and a few others are doing camshafts with improved specifications on the late cam core but at a premium cost.

SA gear is making most of the replacements as timing sets far as I know. Although they may be adequate, having the choice of running a seamless double roller chain with billet gears and a upgraded camshaft spec at a cost slightly more then the 99 replacement and significantly less than a custom Jones, I think it would be money well spent on the 68-232-4 and Rollmaster timing set. If your willing to take a trip to the Jeep dealer the cam bolt kit is half the cost of Hesco's.

So nobody really has a cam for a 99 that's comparable to the 682424 then ? I'm thinking a stock chain at this point just because there a thousands of 4.0 's over 300k on them with an original timing chain. Granted you are going from 200hp to 250-275 but I can't see a chain getting destroyed with less than a hundred extra horse. Btw did you see my email Russ ?

For a stroker, he recommends-- Stroker Cam= 260/264 204/[email protected]" 1.6:1-0.472"/0.478"

Comp Cam 68-232-4 206/[email protected]. .460 IN .476 EX 113 Lobe sep. angle
For $100.00 more you'll get Cam, lifters, bolt spring and pin along with a billet double roller timing set from
Rollmaster. There is not a double roller timing set available for the later camplate style camshafts.

Just some pros and cons to think about.

Cams bought but I'll check out roll master
