Re: New Stroker Build
Depending on the quality of the head port job, you could expect ~260hp/318lbft at the crank. With big tires and higher ratio axle gears coupled with an auto tranny, the drivetrain loss will be quite high so on a chassis dyno, you might get ~185rwhp & 225rwtq.

Although I haven't done a port/polish before, I've tinkered with metal fabrication in the past. I'll practice with a junk head just to be sure. I downloaded the Standard Abrasives DIY guide too.

Pistons installed!
Tell you what, those piston ring compressors are a pain in the ass.

Once you've used a dedicated tapered ring compressor you'll never use anything else.

I figured there had to be a better way, but I managed to square it away.Russ Pottenger wrote:Once you've used a dedicated tapered ring compressor you'll never use anything else.

Re: New Stroker Build
Been quite a while since I posted last. My project is finally getting off the ground. Had my 42RE rebuilt (friggin $$$!) and scored a rebuilt 231 for cheap. Got everything buttoned up, until I realized I missed buying valve springs, ordered them from Summitracing, only to find out they won't work nor do many companies sell aftermarket springs to match the lift of the Comp Cams 68-231-4 (462/.485) and a #7120 head. For sale Talked to Russ, he said I'd have to get some head work done to get springs to work, so for sake of money, he's pushing me one of his custom cams.
Current photo thus far!
4" Rough Country lift, General Grabber 31s, Cragar Soft 8. All ready to go. Horseshoe intake needed some grinding to match the aftermarket headers flange.

Re: New Stroker Build
Thought I shared earlier, I also did a port match job on the horseshoe intake. Grind tips don't like aluminum, I spent more time scraping the aluminum out of the cutter.

Give the burr a squirt of WD-40 once in a while and it will throw the chips right off.

Another good trick is to use a hard wax similar to candlewaxjasonb wrote:Give the burr a squirt of WD-40 once in a while and it will throw the chips right off.
