Reusing oil pump tube

Post by optmaxx »

I'm rebuilding my first stroker build after about 800 miles because I used the wrong piston rings. I believe that my oil pump is still good, but there is a little bit of debris in the middle of the screen that I can remove, and after that, it will be all clear of debris because there isn't any heavy sludge blocking anything. The little bit of debris are a few small pieces of met6al and a tiny bit of sludge in the center of the screen, but too big to get pass the screen. My question is, should I be good with just cleaning out that debris, and maybe spinning the gear to pump some clean oil through the pump to flush it out? Or should I replace the pickup tube?

If you're positive you can get it clean and flush the dirt and debris out, no problem reuse it.
If any doubt buy a new one. They're only about 20 bucks.

I took a shot at cleaning it, and the debris turned out to be just soft paper like debris, no metal. I was able to flush it out with hot water so it's good as new now.

Very good.
Just verify your 1/4 to 3/8 from the bottom of the pan and you should be good to go.
