Cam Questions

Ok I'm in the process of getting everything together for my Stroker. The question is what is needed to put a pre 99 cam in an 04? What is the max lift on stock springs? My cam grinder doesn't have the late model option. I may just have to go with a different cam if it's too much hassle. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of Bulltears as soon as I hear back from the machine shop on the size needed. I have a 01 4.0 that lost a piston skirt with minor scoring. I will do some porting and polish the chambers. What is the max dcr on mid grade gas that I should run? I know this has been brought up many times but there is so much conflicting info, I know there will be a lot of factors but I just don't want to be too high and ping or too low and loose power.
Thanks, Al

You'd need an aftermarket or '94-'98 OEM timing set plus the earlier style recessed cam bolt/spring/pin, larger washer, and the cam of course.

What is the max lift on stock springs?

0.430"

What is the max dcr on mid grade gas that I should run?

I'd say 8.0:1

Those springs are just stock replacement springs, nothing more, just cheaper.

#3 washer and #13 bolt, spring and pin asm.

Looks like a good price at 5 bucks but looks like the washer is not included. Worth a call to see if you can get #3 as it`s not listed

EDIT, looked again. #3 washer is NLA.

eBay set then ?

Ok, I bought the Bulltears nicpaige had for sale, they're 26 cc. Should I just stay with the stock cam with 8.0 dcr or go with the Mopar 229 with 8.1? I think the 229 will give a better low end and mid range for daily driving. Thoughts?
Thanks, Al

The 229 would be tight in the lift with stock springs. 91-95 might be a compromise or the melling 809 which is almost the same.

I've used this spring with Comps 68-232-4 camshaft on daily driver strokers with good results as long as
your accurate in setting up your installed spring height. 1.640 to 1.650 will give you about .050 from coil bind
on Exh. and .065 on Int.

My thoughts were to get the duration down for a better low end and mid range. After some research I decided to go this route instead of the higher duration cam.
Russ how difficult was get the with those springs?
Thanks, Al
