Rocker arm choices POLL

Post by Frankenstien »

It seems there are a few opinions about this subject matter and I just want to see if we can get better information gathered in one location and thread.
You get 4 choices.
1. Brand
2. Type adjustable or non
3. Are you happy or not with your purchase
4. Have you had problems with them

Thanks!

I ran Crower adjustable aluminum roller rockers with guide plates. If I build another stroker, I'm not sure if i'll run roller rockers again. I'm not sure all the money spent is worth the hp gain. Although I would love to see real world hp gains fron a set of roller rockers on the Jeep 6.

I've got 135,000 miles on my stock 4.0 with stamped rockers and you can't even hear the engine run (no valve noise).

1: I went with factory-style stamped from Federal Mogul
2: Obviously non-adjustable
3: Satisfied, but I've been wanting the Yella Terras for awhile(next build)
4: No problems

The real benefit of using roller rockers (especially those that have shafts to align the pairs) is that they're more stable at high rpm especially if you've upgraded to a higher lift cam and stiffer valve springs. The HP gains, unless you go to higher ratio rockers i.e. 1.7 (stock are 1.6), are negligible.

Wow!
Look at the change over the last week. I am beginning to think stamped is because the popular choice is to go stock cam specs? Adjustable would be for those who went more radical with the cam as will I be doing. Mmmm interesting I sure thought more would have gone H.S. and adjustable....Lets see how this plays out over the next week or so.
Thanks!

Another option worth considering would to use a OEM cam with wide lobes and nonadjustable
1.7 Harland Sharps.

Yes and with that could explain even using a stock cam spec. with stamped or no adjustable causing cam failure with the deep milling strokers due on head and block.
Take 10 off the head and 20 off the block then I hear a lot of guys using slightly stronger springs and you got a boom done cam with non adjustable or stamped rockers.
Then how many guys are then not breaking in cam properly from there or not using break in lubes during the first runs? Could be issue there no?
I am thinking so.

Adjustable rockers will not save anyone from improper pushrod length. They can only account for a small amount of preload variance.

X 2,

I'll only add that for budget considerations, the non adjustable rollers save you the cost of valve cover
and thermostat spacers.

Any good engine machinist /cylinder head guy should be able to give you a head with consistent valve tip heights.
That way measuring and ordering the correct length pushrods should be a breeze.

The extra height of the adjuster nut on the pushrod side of the rocker arm will hit
the underside of the valve cover.
