Jeep Strokers

I'm sure that this has been brought up before but I'm on the fence about what size throttle body I should use? 62mm or 65mm. My tuner is recommending the 65, I'm thinking the 62 because its a wheeling rig and throttle control off idle is crutial. Please tell me what you have and what you think about it. 4.6L, Mopar 229, 9.6:1 mild porting, 24Lb injectors, 4.56 gears 33's, and auto trans

You will be happy with the 62mm especially if mostly wheeling. At anything less than WOT, the 62mm will be fine. At WOT the 65mm might give you 2-3 more power.

I would be perfectly okay with loosing 10hp @ redline this thing un tuned with a stock throttle body is nasty as long as I roll on it slow other wise its to rich, so I think with a 62mm and the tune it should be fine. To bad I grenaded my 42re trans today lol! Guess I gotta go get my xj sooner than I thought

For maximum performance I'd agree with you, especially if the engine is capable of revving safely past the stock 5250rpm limit. My only fear about going to that large a size is that the throttle might become difficult to modulate at small openings and cause a lot of bucking. Not something you'd want when wheeling.

I`d be interested in Ryan`s response. 63 BBK`s are the norm for me.

Till more hard knowledge is presented I`ll reserve making judgment on low RPM tractability.

I will not be going past the stock rev limit, everything is balanced and ARP rod bolts but I still have stock valves and a Mopar 229 cam so its just about useless to rev past 5k. I try trust Ryan's judgment he's an excellent tuner but I also know exactly how much throttle control I need.

Nabbed a 4.7 throttle body on eBay for $25 and a cable for $10 I'm gonna see what I can come up with using that. Don't have much experience the 4.7 v-8 TB swap so its gonna be trial and error

and as the advertisement says I purchased a 2002 65mm Durango 4.7 throttle body, only to see that the MAP, TPS and IAC seem completely different along with the throttle cable hookup between my 4.0 TB and this Durango TB.. Luckily I didnt spend too much on the Throttle body.

Yes that's the same adapter I got, and I ordered a 99 wj 4.7 throttle body per my tuners request. I'm not sure if the year is correct or not but I figured the 99 would be the best chance of IAC and TPS being the same.

Hopefully I can post these pics, maybe you can simply switch out the sensors from one to the other throttle body but the cable setup looks unusable to me. Was supposed to be plug and play according to the ad for the adaptor. Not even the same number of connectors on the sensors.

You got the wrong throttle body, possibly the wrong year. Irregardless of that the XJ cable arm will be need to be welded on or attached to in some fashion on to the 4.7L throttle body. Did you forget to do research on this?

Well unfortunately I took the following statement from the ebay ad as completely factual. "This custom intake manifold adapter will allow you to install a 65MM 4.7L Dodge throttle body onto a Jeep 4.0L intake Manifold.
It is commonly used on stroker engines (4.5L, 4.6L, 4.7L or 4.8L) that need more airflow than the stock throttle can deliver.
The 4.7L throttle plugs directly into the wiring harness."

Shame on me. Im positive I could make something to attach the cable with, the sensors swapping I am not sure about. They both (sensors)look like they may be the same bolt pattern. I will see for sure tomorrow. Hopefully the OP on here isnt heading for the same issue but from the pics of Grand Cherokee 4.7 TB's it looks as if he might.

I'm gonna see what I can fab up to run the 4.7 throttle cable so I can keep the cam it has. Don't know if I can make it work yet or not still waiting for it to get here
