Synthetic for Stroker Suggestions.

Has anyone converted their Stroker to use Synthetic oil? I have been waiting forever to start using Synthetic and now that I have 15000+ miles on the 4.7 I think I am ready to convert.

For break in and the first few oil changes I used ZDDP Plus and Comp Break in Oil.
Afterwards, I started using Valvoline VR1 with ZDDP Plus and eventually just Valvoline VR1 by itself. From the start I have used 10w30.

I know in the past when I looked into this Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 was a good oil choice, but am not sure if that's still the case or if there is something better out there. Additionally, I am not sure if 5w-40 is appropriate for my engine.

Thanks for taking the time.

Brad Penn 10w-30

Haven't lost an engine yet due to lubrication issues.
From the cold of the North to the heat of the desert.

Mobil 1 15w 50

No issues, but don't run it much in the winter either

I have been using synthetic since the start, with the comp cams additive for cam break in.

Amsoil SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Premium Protection Motor Oil
http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/m ... code=AMOQT

Has the zinc etc to help with engine life.

Now I only have 400 miles on the engine so not sure if I am a good data point just yet :)

Cheers

Chris

Brad Penn, Joe Gibbs. and Amsoil also offers some high ZDDP oil. As do other leading synthetic companies.

I was under the impression that we did not want to use synthetic oil during the break in period of any engine. Conventional oil is supposed to help the rings and lifters seat. With 400 miles on it I would switch to a conventional for the next 10,000 miles or so.

Many new vehicles come from the factory with synthetic oil.

You don't want to use synthetic for break in. Doesn't matter what most new vehicles come with (they also come with OHC or roller cams). You also don't know what may be different about the factory fill oil.

I agree. Just trying to address the myth that synthetics don't allow rings to seat.

Yeah. Oil isn't that consequential for ring seating. Its more of the driving/break in method. None of this granny it BS.

I went ahead and went with Rotella T6 as I originally had thought about.

Thanks

I have just over 1000 miles on the engine now. I changed the oil at 500 miles still on the same synthetic amsoil. Should I be changing to conventional or at this point is it too late/does not matter.

For break in I did the 30 mins between 2-2.5k for the cam, oil change then about 10ish runs up to 50mph then coast back to 30 to seat the rings.

Cheers
