Man, 3/4" deck! Most Al heads are 5/8" as is the HESCO head (stock head is 3/16"). I think these heads can be used as-is, but they can also be worked-up hugely.

It looks like it is missing two features that the Hesco head had. Enlarged pushrod holes so you can pull the lifters without removing the head and a raised valve cover rail so a spacer is not needed with roller rockers.

Yeah, those would have been nice features.SilverXJ wrote:It looks like it is missing two features that the Hesco head had. Enlarged pushrod holes so you can pull the lifters without removing the head and a raised valve cover rail so a spacer is not needed with roller rockers.

Re: Edelbrock 4.0L head soon to be available.
As big of a company as Edelbrock is, those would be very easy changes to make, and they could make changes before release. The other company that sells the Al head is not as flexible on casting changes like someone like Edelbrock. The push rod holes look like they are simply drilled, and they would just need to be drilled bigger; looks doable to me (if they aren't big enough already). I was a little concerned with the head bolt bosses protruding into the intake ports creating that "pinch". I know why they do it (for less clamping deformation), but it seems like it would interfere somewhat. I wonder if they improved the exhaust port floor or just copied the 7120/0630 design. The brochers say modern combustion chamber and improved port design, so i gotta think they are improved (hopefully by FEA designed). Intake ports are 144cc/77cc int and ex respectively. Does anyone have any idea what those stock specs are? I'm thinking these are the same or slightly larger(?). One other thing, will that new combustion chamber benefit from a piston crown that will better match it? The dish in the pistons now available would work, but better suited for the old combustion chamber shape.

Re: Edelbrock 4.0L head soon to be available.
Great news!
I'd like to see a dyno comparison between a stock head and the Edelbrock. I imagine that will come.
Wondering what valve springs they are using and if they'll work on an iron head.

Stock intake & exhaust ports are 112cc & 73cc respectively. Mine were increased to 114cc & 80cc after I ported my head.I6FAN wrote:Intake ports are 144cc/77cc int and ex respectively. Does anyone have any idea what those stock specs are?

Looks sweet! Even if they didn't enlarge the pushrod holes, it'd be an easy modification to add... Is there any avenue to send Edelbrock some recommendations on this head?

I emailed Troy Hooker again asking about price. He said approximately $1200, and that final pricing would be announced "shortly".

BTW, that casting shown at SEMA isn't the same as the one that is going to be released. There may be some changes.

2nd Load: 260 lbs @ 1.310" (.400" Lift) and 400lbs/in
So that will be 268 lbs at 0.420", and 300 lbs at 0.500"
Does this seem too high and could take out cam lobes?

The 100 lbs @ 1.7 is in the ball park but the 260 @ .400 is high. Hoping it was a typo and is 260 @ .500 which would be fine.jeepxj3 wrote:2nd Load: 260 lbs @ 1.310" (.400" Lift) and 400lbs/in

If it is in fact 260 @ .400 then I personally would not run it.
