Harmonic Balancer Diameter?

Does anyone know the actual diameter of the harmonic balancer? I have seen 6.5" mentioned and a few other sources mentioning slightly bigger or smaller than that. I do not have a caliper that goes above six inches so I roughly measured with a measuring tape to 6.5".

It varies between brands. One I had was 7.175". Although hey are usually close to 7".

Is that the overall maximum diameter or the belt area diameter?

Harbor Freight was having a sale as usual so I picked up a deep jaw digital caliper. The stock 1997 XJ harmonic balancer on my MJ measured 6.5" exactly over the peaks of the splines.

The measurement on the belt area shouldn't change much between brands. I don't have a balancer in front of me but from the specs of the stock style one I sent to ATI for the production of my ATI balancer it measures 6.375" from the top of the rib area. I don't recall which balancer I sent to them though. Might have been the Dorman because it was a POS.
