I just put a flowmaster super 44 on mine and really like it . Sized 2 1/2" nice exhaust note without drone or ricer fart can sound. They are a little louder than some but I like to hear the sound of the 4.6 under power.

Id go with a flowmaster as well, they have the delta flow series ones that are loud outside and quieter inside. They have a bunch of super ones which are the louder ones (loud doesn't usually mean bad). You could also check out the magnaflow ones, they look pretty good. I'm running a cherrybomb turbo muffler which I like a lot since I only paid 30$ at pep boys. when I do my exhaust right i'll get the Carsound High flow cat and flowmaster 40 deltaflow since I have a ragtop and I can hear EVERYTHING

The super 44 is with the Delta tech. I went with it to try and improve velocity through the system, we will see. Got to get under the rig with a IR thermo gun.

From their website:

Super 44's

Super 44 -NEW!- Two Chamber Mufflers
Flowmaster’s NEW Super 44™ muffler with its 4” x 9.75” x 13” all black finish case offers distinct advantages over our original 40 Series™ muffler. Using the technology seen in our larger Super 40™ mufflers, the Super 44™ delivers a rich deep tone, an improved flow path radius, optimum internal flow and sound control, all created with Flowmaster’s Delta Flow® technology. It is the most aggressive, deepest sounding, highest performing four inch case street muffler we’ve ever built!

1bolt, when any of my 6's sound like a V8, I'll quit. Been building Inline 6's for about 40 years because I prefer them. Of cours I did check out a Offy 4cyl once, hot date but not to bring home to your mom.

My Magnaflow isn't much louder than stock, even though you could look straight through it. It has a great growl from about 4400 rpm on (which means I probably won't hear it 3 more times in my lifetime) but doesn't really sound like anything other than a loud stock muffler otherwise. Has great flow, though.

Heck, I run a magnaflow on my street legal 99 TJ and I agree they sound good. I went with the Flowmaster for the beast YJ because I can more easily build a tuned system with it and it has a much more authoritative bark throughout it's rpm range. I have driven the TJ coast to coast on a summer a few years ago. The flowmaster might have gotten old by the time I got across Kansas, but for what the YJ is built for, I find it perfect. But yes, the magnaflows sound nice when you light them up.

I have a Gibson on my XJ. Its ok. Slightly louder than stock and it sounds decent. However, I have found that they don't flow much better than stock. I'm looking for something else. Don't want to go the flow master route though.

Whatever you get-- be sure it, and the entire system, is 2.5"-- I'm running a stainless Dynamax straight through job (ebay special $20!)-- it sounds GREAT!

I'm gonna initially use my current Borla w/Magnaflow cat setup on my stroker. It's 2 1/4" the whole way until the 2" tailpipe section. I love the quality sound: no drone and quiet off throttle, but wicked when you get on it. I might find that I'll want to go with a bigger downpipe and back, but until then. . .

TallPeter - where did you get the 2.5" all the way through? Is it custom, or is there a bolt up system out there? Everything I could find was 2" or 2.25".
