Jeep Strokers

Ok, I'm going blind from reading so many posts while searching for some type of cold air intake for my lj. My supercharged 4.6L stroker is not happy with the current setup which is an open element filter mounted to the inlet of the supercharger right next to the motor. My IAT's are way too high even with an intercooler. I installed hood louvers to try and lower underhood temps but it didn't help. I need to find a way to get air from outside the engine bay, any ideas?

thanks, I've been looking at cowl intakes but just need to make sure it isn't too restrictive and make custom piping to the supercharger.

Make your own. Dino, myself and others have some good ideas. There isn't a very good setup for out Jeeps, but a few good starts. Most importantly you need outside cold air.

I thought that the intercooler would make the IATs good. What kind of temps are you seeing? On my stock XJ I can see 80-180 degrees depending on my speed.

This is what I came up with for an intake. I have a 6" conical air filter in the cowl, hole cut thru to engine bay just large enough (3 5/8")to push the air filter rubber coupler thru, it is tight and creates a great seal around the hole. Then with a few more 3.5" couplers and pipes I connected the filter to the supercharger. When the cowl cover is on the jeep the filter is actually off to the side of the cowl vent, not directly under it so when it rains the water won't be dripping right on the filter. I think it came out great and sounds mean when I get on it! IAT's while idling went from 130's to 90's, so much better!

I am looking to do some kind of cowl induction on my Cherokee as well. All of the snorkels go up the A-Pillar on the Drivers side and I really don't need more visual obstructions on the Drivers side. I would like to just simply breathe under the cowl screen, but I have seen a ton of water under the cowl screen and worry about getting water in the intake. It looks like the floor of the cowl is dished a little low at the filter. Have you ever seen any water in the cowl area or wetness in the filter. I like the concept, but fear it may suck in water during a downpour.

What ever little water that would get to it during a rain storm won't hurt the engine.

Also, my cowl area is sort of funnel shaped with a large drain tube that dumps under the jeep so any water that gets in will dump right out, not sure about a cherokee.
