So I've tryed numerous times using Dino's angelfire write up and I cant get it for the life of me. My cam is aftermarket, mopar 229.
http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/dist_index.html

My harmonic damper doesn't have any marks to line up at 0* on the timing cover
Its hard to make out but #1 piston is at tdc. you can see some casting marks through the spark plug hole.

Screw drivers propping up the valve cover. Piston still at tdc. Both valves relaxed? End of compression stroke right?

Black line is 3cm from rubber plug. When standing at passenger side, the rotor is pointing around 730-8ish. Not 5 o'clock like indicated in the write up.

Played with a bit more and thing I just got lucky. This is probably the 20th time trying today

Tdc with the piston.

This time I watched the valve events. Intake opened, piston going to BDC. Intake valve closes, piston coming to TDC. (Compression stroke) both valves relaxed.

Looked over and saw this. Please tell me this is right lol. Black mark Is #1 plug. About 5 o'clock when looking at it from the passenger side.

Omg what a relief lol. Now I gotta pull the distributor out to prime the oil pump :brickwall:

I'll probably get scorched over this, but I have NEVER primed an oil pump on a 4.0.

I unplug the CPS, crank it over til pressure shows on the gauge, usually 10 seconds, plug the CPS back in and it fires off quietly with no odd noises.

That is one way to do it and it does work. Most people prefer to use a drill on the oil pump drive. Its easy to do as the distributor isn't located in a funny location like at the back of the block nor is the oil pump crank mounted.

If I'm priming by cranking I usually unplug the coil and cam sensor. No fire, no fuel.

When you pull it out note where the rotor is pointing.
If I remember correctly the slot should at 11 o'clock (pump drive).
Put the slot to 11 o'clock, reinstall the distributor with the rotor set where it was at removal.
Then with the engine at TDC, slide the distributor back in While twisting, and you should be back at your black mark.

Thanks so much, sounds easier. Will be doing this instead :rockout:
