My stroker is almost complete long block is assembled just missing the pin and spring, and the machine shop is finishing up the valve job =) by machine shop I mean a friend who builds race motors for a hobby. I ended up with a scat crank, resized rods, Mopar 229 cam, decked near zero, ic944 .030, stock felpro gasket, ported head with 60ish cc chambers .....9.6:1 @ 8.38 dynamic if I remembers

Yes, just replace the pin and spring with a solid pin. Set end play manually by cutting the pin until you get the desired end play.

Steel pin? Or should I use something softer?

Steel. You don't want soft against soft. Soft against soft = gauling.
