Won't even try to fire off at all. Dizzy help.

So I have been messing with this thing forever and I'm at the end of my rope. It won't even try to catch for a split second. Turning over the engine with or without the coil wire plugged in and it sounds exactly the same. I have fuel pressure and spark.

So after searching the net I get two different methods for setting the timing. One (my current setup) is to mark the dizzy housing at the #1 spark plug and, of course, TDC at compression stroke and line up the rotor directly at #1. No dice, no start.

Second method I have just read about is to have the rotor just past #1 one marked cylinder on the dizzy. That goes against everything I have know in the past. So what is right for these 4.0's (1998 TJ stock dizzy)??? Anyone have pictures or any insight??? I'm about done with this nightmare project.

this is the correct way its under faqs... http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/dist_index.html, if it doesn't help you might want to check your cam/crank signals

What year of dizzy is that? Mine has a much smaller cam position sensor rubber plug. Will the 3.0 cm method be the same?

This is the correct procedure for the OBD II system.

You pin the shaft to the housing in the indicated holes and with the crank at TDC compression install the distributor and lock it down.

Thanks everyone. It was one tooth off. Still doesn't make sense. Everything I have rebuilt you point it at number one not way past it. Oh well. It fired right up, broke it in and later after cooling down went for a short drive through town.

have two codes though. P0340 (Cam positioning Sensor) & P1682 alt not charging. Can't find any problems with the wiring so I'm just going to replace the alt with a high amp unit since it looks like the original alt with 175,000 miles on it. Hopefully replacing the CPS will fix that code. Need to pass emissions this week.

Try clearing the codes once first so you can be 100%
