What kind of timing are you running now?

Telling us your setup would help. Timing demands are heavily dependent on the configuration.

So, I take it this is normally aspirated ? I see what looks like map going up to 400 (kPa ?) It's hard for me to read the numbers, but I would say, you want to adjust your timing so that you are running the minimum amount for maximum torque. If you are limited to street tuning, I would recommend driving around, datalog, and watch where you hover in the map, try bumping timing a few degrees at a time. The timing can be considerable more advanced at part throttle than at full throttle. How is you lambda ?

yes naturally aspirated. afr's are all pretty good, well within spec. i really wanted to get a knock sensor before starting with timing adjustments but i can't afford to keep driving it at 10 mpg. so i'm assuming i increase the timing at cruising loads but leave the wot loads alone? how do i know when i've gone too far? or not far enough?

The timing does not look too unreasonable, have you verified that indicated timing matches measured?
