Ok guys,

I Have a lifted 4.0 Wj that is a little underpowered for my liking. This vehicle does see some daily driving, but also spends a lot of its time in the woods/mud/rock/etc. I am looking for a reliable way to increase power. My only concern is breaking drive train components when off road. Will spend 2000+ or more if necessary. The Engine, intake, and exhaust are currently stock. One more thing, I understand that modifying the intake will be a necessary step, but a standard cold air intake is too prone to getting wet for me so suggestions on increasing air flow, while keeping water out would be great too. Thanks in advance for any help.

If your engine is still in good condition, regearing the axles with higher ratio gears to increase torque multiplication to the wheels may be the answer for you.
As for the intake, it sounds like you need to invest in a snorkel.

I agree with Cheromaniac about gearing being your answer. However I want to make sure you know that by higher gears he means higher numerically. The higher the number for the ratio, the lower the gearing. I have always heard that referred to as lower gears.

What is current gearing? is it 3.55 or 3.73?

With my WJ I have the factory towing package so I have 3.73 and I think it is to slow and sluggish this is why i started looking at stroking and my oil pressure is reading out at you know 3psi idling.

Not sure if it would work... but I saw a thread of some one putting a m90 supper charger on the intake not sure what all is required but if motor is in good condition this might be an option some times you can pick them up on Craig's list for 100-200 if the motor is still in good shape sure sliver xj some one more knowable than me will chime in on if this would be an option.
