I Have had nothing but problems with my 4.6 Stoker built By Western Engine Supply. NEVER GET WORK DONE HERE.

After 20K miles I noticed a lower end noise. After much deliberation, I took the engine out to inspect it. And this is what I found.

Experts I need advice to why this would happen after 20K miles.

1. The engine builder said I don't need the crank girdle. "It does nothing". Could my excessive end play be cause from not not having the girdle?
2. Is this a simple fix, can I just add new bearings and be good?
3. Has anyone seen this problem?

That sucks! Auto or manual trans? The issue in pinpointing what the initial problem was here is a bit tough. Looks like they either didn't bother checking endplay when the motor was setup. Or for some reason the crank ate up the thrust surface. Is the #3 main/thrust bearing loose at all? Have you pulled the crank out yet to inspect the bearings.. Specifically the #3? Also look at the side thrust surface on the corresponding crankshaft journal is it tore up? Probably is now.... Post some more pics when you can.

While it probably didn't cause your problem I wouldn't say it does nothing. DCX put it there for a reason.

Most likely not. At least a new crank, possibly block.

3. Has anyone seen this problem?

Common causes: Low oil pressure, incorrect crank finish, problem with transmission, thrust bearing installed in wrong spot.

The #3 Thrust bearing has wear on one side. facing the flywheel. When I would accelerate the crank would slam forward. I will get some more pics.

I always had good oil pressure.
My trans hasn't had any issues either.

I also noticed in the video link you sent of the same issue. I did not see a crank girdle on that motor.

The cause was probably an improperly installed torque converter.

Can I inquire about your installation methods?

Whose crankshaft? Was it a stock crank or a scat.Scat crank pilot hole is very tight where the torque convertor goes in.Did the convertor come right out of the crank when you pulled the motor or did you have to pry it out?

I have to say I am using the scat crankshaft with an aw4 and cleaning about 6 layers of paint off the converter pin that enters the crank it fit better than the stock 4.0 crank.

When you unbolted the converter from the flexplate were you able to put the converter back from the flexplate?

Mine was still tight after cleaning the paint off to the point it took more than that to make it fit properly.Im using a 42re so maybe its just a case of tolerances stacking up but still something to watch for.

The torque converter was not stuck and came off easily. I pulled the converter out of the bell housing yesterday. It was seated properly.
