Exhaust / intake cooling

what, if any, are you guys using? I am thinking of a "header wrap" and maybe something that will stick to the bottom of the intake. Also would like to cool the incoming air, I was planning on running the air intake at the base of the windshield via a small snorkel set up over on the passengers side, like a Hummer.

thoughts and pictures would be great

Coat the header/manifold in some form of head barrier. Swain Tech or Calico can do it. Same can be done for the intake manifold. Put some kind of heat blocking foil on the bottom of the intake like DEI's Reflect a gold, leave the top open so it can radiate heat. I insulated the injectors, fuel rail and fuel line. I also fabricated a true cold air box http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... =15&t=2527. Hood vents help vent hot air out as well. If you have a metal air intake tube insulate that as well. IIRC DEI makes a lace up sleeve to go over the tube.

I'm not done with motor yet, but I have wrapped the headers, plan on cleaning the intake and insulating the bottom of it, and I ran a spectre intake with a cowl scoop on my TJ. It's kinda like what you have in mind. http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/9943/ ... 4AodyGEABA link to the intake

silver how big of a decrease in temp did all of that get you?

Muad'Dib, did you do that yourself or get it done. I have been looking at spray and powder coat coatings. I do have the Eastwood powdercoat kit and an old oven, just haven't used them yet. My thought there is to coat the exhaust and maybe the bottom and 1/2 up on the intake. Thing is, the exhaust manifold I want to use has two flex joints (between 1&2, then 5&6).

I used fiberglass belting and stainless steel ties to insulate the Borla header and exhaust pipe. I use a straight-through (cherry bomb) muffler to help get as much heat as possible out the back. After I drowned my Jeep (before the stroker) in a rain-swollen arroyo, I installed a snorkel. I think I get cooler air 5' off the ground than the stock intake. I never measured the intake temperature, but all this seemed to fix the overheating I had experienced before, and with the stroker, power doesn't seem to be a problem!

Im running everything silver is, and I have also made a 'direct air' intake, which is basically a velocity stack sticking out of my hood. In traffic it will still heat up like normal, but at WOT ill pull ambient numbers on my IAT sensor. A little bit of n2o and 80 degree air turns into 20 degrees real quick.

Just read in a magazine about testing ceramic coated headers.

Summary-

-on the dyno, no power change, sucking hot underhood air will definitely feel the effects of the hotter air
-after a dyno run, ceramic 258* dropping to 195* after 1 minute, Uncoated 870* dropping to 520*
-after loading the engine to 60 lb-ft at 2800 rpm, like cruising, ceramic 288*, uncoated 562*
