Talked to Bennie today and he sorta steered me towards companies like AEM and Split Second for OBD1 piggyback controllers.

Had a nice conversation with the SS guy about the FTC1 controller.

I am a bit confused though. Being told that the controller will work in closed loop......Normal operating temp and throttle below 75-80%.........but when I look at the SS tech pages http://www.splitsec.com/technotes/technotes.html I get the impression the FTC will only work in open loop and needs an additional controller to modify the O2 signal for closed loop operation.

After doing a search here on JSers I see several folks are using the SS FTC. Have not been able to decipher the actual usage and tunabilty though. Could someone enlighten me as to how they are using the unit and tuning with it ?

Want to add fuel (via MAP voltage and/or FP) in the upper ranges but pull it out down low.

The AEM and SS won't do anything for the AFR in closed loop. The AEM can help you zero your fuel trims though, which won't help if you can't read them in the first place (OBDI). The SS is a MAP adjusted with multiple points and the ability to pull timing. The AEM, while you can adjust the MAP voltage, is primarily used to intercept the injectors and modify the fueling in that matter. Now, if the injectors are too large for the PCM to effectively control and pull fuel out in closed loop, the AEM can help that situation. What is your current AFR like?

The guy at SS sure tried his best to convince me that the FTC would change pulse width in closed loop. Contrary to everything I`ve understood and even their own tech pages. Hence this thread..

At 42 psi I am a bit rich at no/low/moderate throttle openings. During cruise the ECM is able to bring the mix back to an average of 14.7 where it toggles as expected.

In open loop I am seeing 13.6-8 which is a few points leaner then I`d like. My hope was to add some fuel pressure to the OL range while removing some fuel at low RPM/throttle openings CL. MAP voltage is at 5.2 right now.

Did have some great success cleaning up the idle and coast down richness with adding an air bleed to the throttle plate. Right now I am at 7/64th (.1098) and would consider moving up just a touch larger to an 33 (.1130) or a 34 (.1160). Think a 1/8 (.125) would be to big based on past experience.

I have a Split-Second (OBD II engine) and it is able to adjust the air fuel ratio in open loop, but in close loop the O2 sensor all time try to adjust air fuel ratio to stechiometric, (but as the FCT cheats the ECU, I think that really fuel is being ajusted by some amount).
