So on my 4.6 I want .050 quench so my m/p gasket compressed is .041 so I should have my deck .009 above the piston right? I have been looking at my numbers to long

If your gasket is .041" & .009" deck height then yes, quench is .050".

I thought commonly available gaskets were .043" & .051"? I'll have to check that.

Your right bit after Its torqued it should be .041.... I think

If you want a .050" quench, then yes you will want the pistons .007" in the hole.

ok cool i have been getting everything together there is to many numbers lol but the block is almost done just need the deck

You are aware a tighter quench, although it does slightly raise the compression helps more? So the slightly added compression really doesn't matter, the tighter quench will prevent detention.

If your decking the block, I see now reason to keep a .050 quench? Nosigma ran his quench height at .017, this is the tightest I've ever seen run without issues to 5000 rpm. I've seen and dealt with motors with a quench in the high .02x range. 1 in the 10s for compression with a comp 231 & runs on Cali 91 pump gas. :worship: My quench will be a even .03". .043 head gasket and the pistons are .013 above deck. I would say deck the block so your either zero deck or just above deck, tighten that quench up, you'll gain in efficiency, less chance p detonate and less emissions.
