Jeep Strokers

I posted this homebrew mod on another forum back in 09 when I made it and figured it might be useful in the Stroker world so here goes. After adding CAI to my 2004 Mustang GT, I tossed the old air filter cannister in the attic. When building my Jeep, I thought it might be useful to have true Cold Air Induction thru the cowl so I fished out the Stang unit and went to work. My only cost was the flexible tubing from Advanced Auto parts for $20!

Prior to the snorkel I made this up out of plumbing parts: Since diconnecting it, I now get hot air from under bonnet when I open the vents inside, cools the engine bay at least

I left out the part that I cut a hole about 3 1/2" into the cowl area. The rubber "horn" that goes thru the hole is simply pulled thru until it was tight. Believe it or not, there is nothing supporting the cannister other than the horn and after three years, all is well.

I suppose I'll have to modify the portion before the cannister if I upgrade to the 4.7 Dakota throttle body. I wouldn't think that my stock air intake "pipe" will work with the larger throttle body. Either way, I'll modify if I have to because I am keeping that cannister/cowl setup. No hot engine bay air for me!!!

While my CAI wasn't $20, putting the filter in the cowl area dropped my IATs somewhere in the neighborhood of 90*+ at idle/stopped. I do like how you were able to utilize an off the shelf filter that probably flows better than the tiny gauze filter I sourced for under my cowl. I also really dig the fact that my awesome intake sounds now resonate through my air vents! Also, it looks like you have an early TJ, a 97 cowl has a larger grill opening, allowing you to modify the vent covers for mo airflow.

Oow mustang air box is nice. I'm using a ford windstar air box & filter through the cowl. Air box is then connected to a snorkel topper so its pulling fresh air from above the cowl, plus I get the cool hummer intake type look and if needed, I could throw on a piece of pvc as an extension on when water forging.
